MD5 stands for Message Digest algorithm 5. It is a widely used cryptographic hash function and it was invented by Ronald Rivest in 1991. The algorithm was developed to present text or binary as input and to generate fixed size "hash value" as output.
A string of any length will be taken to create MD5 hash. The string will be encoded into 128-bit fingerprint. When you encode the same string by applying the MD5 algorithm, there will be 128-bit hash output. A simple string of up to 256 characters in length can be encoded into MD5 hash by using the MD5 hash generator.
You can compare the hash of the source file with the hash of the destination file so that the data integrity can be confirmed. The simple tool will compute the MD5 hash of a string. As MD5 is a one-way hash function, it will take the message and the message will be converted into fixed string of digits. These digits are also called as message digest.
